Voice
the way a writer or speaker uses words and tone to express ideas as well as his or her personas
Diction
word choice intended to convey a certain effect
Tone
a writer’s or speaker’s attitude toward a subject
Imagery
the words or phrases a writer uses to represent persons, objects, actions, feelings, and ideas descriptively by appealing to the senses
Narrator
who is telling the story
Syntax
the arrangement of words and the order of grammatical elements in a sentence
Protagonist
the central character in a work of literature, the one who is involved in the main conflict of the plot
Antagonist
the character who opposes or struggles against the main character
Simile
a comparison of two or more unlike things using the words “like” or “as”
Hyperbole
exaggeration used to suggest strong emotion or create a comic effect
Vignette
a picture or visual or a brief descriptive literary piece
Prose
ordinary written or spoken language using sentences & paragraphs, without deliberately regular meter or rhyme; not poetry or song
