What is a spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet is a type of software application (app) that stores
information in tables.
What are the uses of spreadsheets?
- To Store information.
- To Sort, filter and make calculations
- To Draw charts
Why do people use spreadsheets?
Using spreadsheets makes storing data quicker, easier and more accurate.
What are the 2 criteria of rows?
Rows are:
● Left to right
● Labelled with a number
What are the 2 criteria of columns?
Columns are:
● Top to bottom
● Labelled with a letter
What is a Cell Reference?
a cell reference is also known as the name of the cell. A cell reference is made up of the column(letter) and row(number).
What is data?
‘Data’ is the name for facts
and figures.
How can you organize data in a spreadsheet?
you can organize data in a structured format called ‘data table’ in spreadsheets
Data does not mean much unless you know how to ___.
Data does not mean much unless you know how to sort, format and analyse the data.
The heading of the column is the ___.
The heading of the column is the field name.
What is the difference between a field and a field name?
A field name only stores one fact and explains what data is in the field.
What is the difference between a record and a row?
A record has several fields and stores all the data about one thing, event or person.
What is a primary key?
A primary key is a field that that uniquely identifies the item. A primary key has a different value in each record.
What are four ways you can sort a data table?
- Alphabetical order
- Numerical order
- Ascending
- Descending
What is filtering?
When you filter a data table, the spreadsheet will only show records that match your filter criteria. Other records are hidden.
What is data validation?
Validation is a type of data check. You decide on rules called validation criteria.
If data and criteria are not matched, the data is wrong.
Why is checking data important ?
Data accuracy is important because wrong data can cause big problems. Wrong data can be difficult to find if there is a lot of data. So, software apps have data checks.
What makes list validation efficient?
List validation makes data input simpler so the user does not need to type data, instead they choose the right value from a list.
What are the advantages of list validation?
The advantages of list validation are:
● Choosing from a list can be quicker than typing.
● There is less chance of making mistakes.
● The data is consistent.
What is a formula?
A formula is a mathematical calculation in spreadsheets that uses
arithmetic operators to calculate results.
In spreadsheets, the formula must start with an equal sign(=).
