Personality
Characteristics of a person that makes them do what they do.
Anxiety
A negative emotional state that is closely associated with arousal. It is experiencing apprehension and being aware of high arousal linked to our fears and worries
State anxiety
Anxiety that is felt in a particular situation.
Stable personality traits
A personality characteristic of someone who does not swing form one emotion to another, but is usually consistent in their emotional behaviour.
Unstable personality trait
A personality characteristic of someone who is highly anxious and has unpredictable emotions.
Extrovert
A personality characteristic or trait of a person who seeks social sit and likes excitement but lacks concentration.
Introvert
A personality characteristic or trait of a persons who does not seek social situations and likes peace and quiet, but is good at concentrating.
Arousal
The energised state or the readiness for action that motivates us to behave in a particular way.
Self-actualisation
The individuals desire to explore and understand tyre world so that they can grow personally and reach their potential
Attitude
How we act to certain stimuli.
Social norms
Behaviours that are deemed ‘normal’ within a culture and are created through a process called socialisation.
Culture
Members are g a community learning certain behaviours that are shared among those within the community of people or our society.
Stereotype
A belief held by a collection of people about traits shared by certain categories of person.
Motivation
The internal mechanism and external stimuli which arousal and direct our behaviour
Drive
Directed, motivation or energised behaviour that an individual had towards achieving a certain goal.
Drive reduction
An individual may be motivated to complete a task, which can be seen as a drive. When that drive is perceived as being fulfilled, then the drive is reduced.
Interactionist approach
Combines traits and learned behaviours together to show and explain how people are/ act
Nurture
Characteristic learnt/ influenced by the environment.
Nature
Traits that have been inherited

The real you remains constant and stable
Role related behaviours
Dynamic and changeable, change quickly into a specific role
Typical response
Response in most situations that can be modified or learned
Social learning perspective
All behaviour is learned learning through the environment

An inherited characteristic
Trait perspective
personality is made up of a range of secondary traits inherited from parents
Type A
