What is the Drive reduction theory?

A

The idea that if an athlete has perfected a skill or the skill is too difficult for them, they will lose motivation.
Motivation is higher when a performer is keen to: participate, learn, perform effectively and progress.

A

Need to avoid failure.

A

Atkinson and McLelland - The drive to achieve success is related to competitiveness, persistence and striving for perfection.
Dependant on incentives and probability for success but also a performers personality (NASH/NAF).

A

Social facilitation concerns how people other than the performer can influence his or her attitudes and behaviour.
