Spliceosomal assembly and catalysis Flashcards
What do non-coding RNA typically do?
function as adaptors that position nucleic-acid targets adjacent to an enzymatic activity that is catalysed either by the RNAs themselves or by associated proteins
Where do spliceosomal snRNA bind to on mRNA?
short conserved motifs located at the junctions between the expressed exon sequences and the intervening introns of target mRNAs
Where is the 5’ splice site located on pre-mRNA?
At the begining of an intron
Where is the 3’ splice site loacted on pre-mRNA?
At the end of an intron
Where is the branch point adenosine usually located?
about 15-50 nucleotides upstream of the 3’ splice site
What are cis-acting regulatory elements?
promoters, enhancers, and silencers. Regions of non-coding DNA, which regulate the transcription of nearby genes
What do cis-acting regulatory elements do?
recruit trans-acting factors
What do trans-acting factors do?
Control higher order particle assembly
