9th-10th rib
12cmx7cmx3cm
Four relations of the visceral surface of the spleen
Anterior surface of the left kidney

Fundus of the stomach
Tail of the pancreas
What are accessory spleens called
Splenunculi
Branches of the splenic artery

Why do you get wedge infarcts in the spleen
Arteries do not bridge internally
Course of the splenic vein
Branches from splenic Hilum join to form the splenic vein. Sometimes a superior polar vein joins outside the Hilum. The splenic vein is joined by the IMV and SMV to form the portal vein.
Two rules of thumb to determine an enlarged spleen
Extends:
Ventral to the aorta
More caudally to the liver
How does the appearance of the spleen differ in the arterial and venous phase
Arterial: Zebra stripes
Venous: Homogeneous
How does the appearance of the spleen differ compared to the liver on T1 and T2 images.
T1. Lower signal to liver
T2. Higher signal to liver
On AXR what should you look for to rule out splenic trauma.
Rib fractures 9-11th
