Client gives up, losing spirit. Illness likely to progress more rapidly if client gives up hope.
Absence of Hope
the capacity to reach out beyond oneself, to extend oneself beyond personal concerns and to take on broader life perspectives, activities, and purposes.

Transcendence
receiving increased attention among healthcare professionals.
-illness seen as punishment of sins, shame and guilt. Clients may seek forgiveness from others as well as God.

Seek a basic understanding of the client’s spiritual needs, resources, and preferences. Follow clients expressed wishes regarding spiritual care. Dont prescribe or urge clients to adopt certain spiritual beliefs or practices. No pressure to relinquish beliefs. Strive to understand personal spirituality choices.
