Lordosis
A
– extreme curvature of
lumbar region
- caused by strength imbalance b/w
lower back muscle and weakened
ab muscles - Causes forward tilt of pelvis & back
pain

Kyphosis
A
– extreme curvature of
thoracic region
- Called “swimmer’s back”
- Caused by abnormal epiphyseal
plate growth - Develops in older women with
osteoporosis

Scoliosis
A
– lateral deviation(s) in spine
- Congential scoliosis – present at birth.
- Neuromuscular scoliosis – caused by
nervous system problem (cerebral palsy,
muscular dystrophy, etc.)
- Signs: One shoulder is elevated, pelvis is
tilted
- Problems: Breathing, pain, self-esteem.
