What is Spinal stenosis?

A

An abnormal narrowing of the spinal canal or intervertebral foramen
Results in pressure on the spinal cord and or nerve roots

Causes of SS?

A

Degenerative = RA OA

Acquired = tumor, trauma, pagets disease

Congenital =Achondroplasia, spinal deformity

Which group is SS common in?

A

Most common in men and women over the age of 50, younger population with this disorder are due to congenital

Clinical presentation of SS:

A
Numbness 
Weakness
Cramping  
Radicular pain 
Sciatica

Pain when standing or walking and almost immediate relief when sitting

Severe cases – impaired bowel and bladder functions and impaired foot disorders.
