Spinal Reflex Flashcards
Five components / pathway of spinal reflexs
1.Receptors (transduces mechanical energy into electrical energy)
2. Sensory neuron (afferent neuron) transmit the impulse through the peripheral nerve to the CNS
3. Control/intervention centre - inter neuron (takes signal and sends it to lower motor neuron)
4. Efferent (motor) neuron
5.Effector e.g. muscle of the hand
What is a reflex
A subconscious stimulus response mechanism
Is a neural wiring of the single reflex and involves five steps
Why do you test for reflex’s (superficial and deep tendon reflexes )
To detect any abnormalities in the reflex pathways, which may indelicate problems in the central nervous system or the peripheral nervous system
