Q

where do the dcml tracts decussate?

A

medulla oblongata (brainstem)

becuase the dorsal columns are where they trsvel in the spinal cord, then they decussate across to the medial lemnisci

and then travel up to the thalamus

Q

where do the spinothalamic tracts decussate?

A

1 or 2 levels above where they enter

spinothaLamic - travel up for a few levels in Lissauer’s fasciculus

then ascend from the spinal cord to this thalamus (it’s in the name…

Q

corticospinal tract

A

descending pathway - arises from the pre-central gyrus where movement control occurs (1y motor cotrex)

Q

where does the corticospinal pathway decussate?

where is the boundary between upper and lower motor neurone lesions?

A

75-90% decussate in the medulla (the LIMB fibres) - decussation in the pyramids in the medulla

hence also called the pyramidal tract..

LIMB fibres descend in the lateral corticospinal tract

AXIAL is in anterior corticospinal tract - decussate at the level of exit from the spinal cord

anterior horn of the spinal cord is where the boundary between upper and lower motor neurone lesions lies
