pt with SI dysfunction/ pregnancy
What causes pt to use SIO ?
Hyperlordosis secondary to anterior weight relaxing increases SI joint motion. placing strain on ligaments supporting sacroiliac hint
How do SIO work?
- compression over sacrum reduces hypermobility
- diagonal support under abdomen reduces lordosis
an example of LSO are ?
“Soft” corsets
What do soft corsets (LSO) do?
combination of proprioception and increasing intra-abdominal pressure (support vertebra)
Name a cardiopulmonary condition that would contraindicate soft corsets (LSO)??
hypertension (an increase in abdominal pressure will rise BP)
Name a neuromuscular pathology that would benefit from increase of BP that a soft corset provides?
A new SCI injury.
- No or weaken abdominal pressure
- an increase in abdominal pressure would increase venous return
Custom fitted LSO are while custom molded are?
off the shelf …… custom made.

what are some of the problems with custom fitted and molded LSO?
- edge pressure (when flex/ext while wearing the brace)
- slipping
- difficult to don and doff in supine or sidling

- some go as high as the clavicle
- some have window openings for breast (most women dislike… more edge pressure )
examples of Hyperextension TLSO and why might a pt need it?
- Jewitt or CASH
- posterior protruding lumbar disc or partial discectomies
