Q

Rubrospinal

A

Fine motor control upper extremities

Facilitates bending towards the body and inhibits bending away from the body

15
Q

Spinal cord vascular supply

Main supply

A

Anterior spinal artery feeds 2/3 of the spinal cord- anterior spinal artery is fed by the aorta

Two smaller arteries run posterior to the cord under Fed from the vertebral arteries and flow into the posterior 1/3 of the spinal cord

16
Q

Central cord syndrome

A

Neck hyper extension

Weakness and numbness primarily in the arms often accompanied by bowel and bladder incontinence

17
Q

Brown-Sequard Syndrome

A

One side of the spinal cord is injured
ipsilateral paralysis, loss of light touch sensation on the side of the lesion, loss of pain and temperature sensation on the contralateral side

18
Q

Anterior cord syndrome

A

Common because the anterior spinal cord is controlled by one artery. Also more susceptible to injury than other portions of the cord. Loss of muscle control pain and temperature without loss of proprioception and touch

19
Q

Posterior cord syndrome

A

Occurs with intraoperative complications
Rare
No sense of where limbs and body are in space below the level of the damage but possesses strength

20
Q

Chronic pain

A

58%

More prevalent with people with mTBI than severe

21
Q

Swallowing problems after severe TBI

A

90%
