Sphere Vocabulary Flashcards
Geosphere
The mostly solid part of earth consisting in all rock as well as the jolls and loose rocks on earths surface
Hydrosphere
Makes up all water on or near earths surface
Crust
The thin and solid outermost layer of earths mantle
Mantle
The layer of rock between crust and core
Core
The central part of the earth below the mantle
Lithosphere
The solid, outer layer of the earth that consists of the crust and the rigged upper part of the mantle
Asthenosphere
The solid plastic layer of the mantle beneath lithosphere
Tectonic plates
A block of lithosphere divided into pieces that slide against eachother
Chemical weathering
Wears down rocks making them smooth as time passes
Corrosion
the process of corroding metal, stone, or other materials.
Atmosphere
Mixture of gasses that earth is surrounded by
Troposphere
Atmosphere layer near earth where weather occurs
Stratosphere
Above trophosphere, contains all ozone
Radiation
the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization.
Conduction
the process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions, without movement of the material
