Describe the sample
11 split brain patients with severe epilepsy.
Did not respond to drug therapy.
Had the split brain operation to reduce the effects of epilepsy.
What was the aim of the study?
To study the psychological effects of hemisphere disconnection in order to understand the functions of the left and the right hemispheres.
What sampling technique was used?
Opportunity sampling was used in this study.
What was the IV in this study?
IV: (naturally occurring) If a person had hemisphere disconnection or not.
What was the DV in this study?
DV: whether the participants could identify/draw the correct information from the stimulus.
What controls were in the study?
All images were shown for 1/10th of a second.
There was NO control group.
What were the results of the study?
Those who saw things in their right visual field were able to identify and say what they saw as the Broca’s area is in the left hemisphere.
Negative evaluation points:
- Low EV, lab experiment.
- No control group.
