Speed & Velocity Flashcards
Velocity
Is the speed in a given direction
Acceleration
Is the rate at which velocity changes with time
Force
A push or pull
Net force
The combination of all forces on an object
Friction
When two forces exert on each other when they rub against each other
Static friction
Acts between objects that are not moving
Rolling friction
When an object rolls across a surface
Sliding friction
Occurs when two solid surfaces slide over each other
Fluid friction
Occurs when a solid object moves through a fluid like water or air
Gravity
Gravity Is the force that pulls objects toward each other
Inertia
Resistance to change In motion
Newton’s first law
An object at rest will stay at rest
Newton’s second law
The net force of an object is equal to the product of its mass and acceleration F=MxA
Newtons 3rd law
Every action has a reaction
Momentum
A characteristic of a moving object that is related to the mass and the velocity of the object
