What is a speech?
Form of communication in spoken language, made by a speaker before an audience for a given purpose
Which are the four types of speeches?
- Impromptu
- Extemporaneous
- Manuscript
- Memorized
What is an impromptu speech?
Speech given without any preparation; improvised speech
What is an extemporaneous speech?
A limited-preparation speech based on research and original analysis
What is a manuscript?
Speech in which the speaker reads every word from a pre-written speech
What is a memorized speech?
A well-planned and previously memorized speech
What is parallelism?
Writing structures that are grammatically parallel to help the reader/listener understand points because they flow more smoothly
What is an antithesis?
To tell people what you DON’T believe in, for them to understand what you DO believe in
What is a tricolon?
A list of three, or a sentence with three clauses, that has an effect on an audience
What is a polysyndeton?
Rhetorical device used to stress the importance of every item
Which rhetorical device is recommended to strengthen any writing style?
Varied sentence length
What is a hypophora?
When the speaker begins with a question and then answers it
What is repetition?
Repeating a word or a concept to create a sense of structure and power

Metaphors set off by concrete images

When two things of the opposite nature are mentioned together
