time stamping/accessioning, identification, sorting, rejection, transport/packaging, disposal
what happens during time stamping/accessioning?
time stamping is documenting the time, accessioning is entering the samples into computer system with unique lab id
what happens during identification?
samples are matched with requisitions to ensure proper matches
specimen sorting?
either by priority: stat, urgent, routine, referral
or by department: hematology, chemistry, microbiology etc.
criteria for specimen rejection?
insufficient quantity or unsuitable specimen, incorrect container or preservative, unlabeled/mislabeled
specimen transport and packaging?
