List the different times for taking urine sample
1) Random urine (unplanned, on spot)- Normal urinalysis
2) Early morning, Fasting sample: Most concentrated used for testing HCG and microbes
3) Timed specimen: the sample is taken at specific times of the day or during certain phases of micturiction e.g 1hour, 6hours, 12 hours, 24 hours etc
4) Midstream sample
5) Double voided specimen
6) Catheter
Preparation of specimen collection
1) Appropriate gear ( gloves, gown, goggles)
2) patient ID
3) appropriate test ( check request form)
4) adequate technique and position
5) appropriate sample bottles
6) prepare disposal system e.g Sharps container
Sample sites
1) Venous sample: Gotten at the antecubital fossa ( median cubital vein and cephalic vein)
2) Arterial sample: Radial vein arterial blood gasses
3) Capillary sample: Gotten at outside of sole or ear lobe with lancet
4) Central venous sample
5) Arteriovenous sample
