Specific Immunty Flashcards
B cell responses
Humoral Effector = plasma cell Formed in bone travels to lymph Antigen binding on MHC Class II Helper T cell binds and differentiates
Cellular
MHC Class I = cytotoxic T-cells –> destruction of bacteria
MHC Class II = Helper T cells (secrete cytokines) –> antibody production –> destruction of bacteria
T Cell Responses
Cellular
Effectors = helper T and cytotoxic T
Thymus
Bind to MHC antigen complex
Helper T cells
Cell that coordinates the cell mediated and antibody mediated responses
Memory cells
Circulating cells still present many years after infection is over
Lymphocytes
Large group of WBC that includes B cells, T cells and others
MHC proteins
Identifying markers on the membrane of body cells
Macrophage
Phagocytic cells that destroy invaders, part of nonspecific defenses
Originate from monocytes which leave circulation and enter the tissues
NK cells
Cells that destroy cancer cells as a part of nonspecific defenses
Inflammation
Part of nonspecific that causes redness, increased body temp and swelling
Antibodies
Defensive proteins important in chemical attack on antigens
Antigen
Foreign protein that can trigger an immune response
Evokes specific response by lymphocyte
Plasma cells
Cell that produces antibodies as a part of specific defense mechanism
Suppressor T cells
Cell that stops specific immune response when an infection is controlled
Cytotoxic T cells
Cell that attacks a specific invader with toxic chemicals
Attacks body cells that have been infected
