Specific Clinical Problems Flashcards
What are conventional immediate complete Dentures
A complete or removable partial denture constructed for Insertion immediately flowing the removal of natural teeth
How may immediate Dentures be categorised?
Interim or conventional
What is an interim denture
An existing partial prosthesis is converted into a complete denture
What is a conventional denture
Conventional wisdom recommends that posterior teeth distal to the first premolar teeth are extracted, ridges allowed to heal for 2-3 months then anterior teeth extracted and a conventional immediate denture inserted
What is a transitional immediate denture
Where a pt who is currently wearing a satisfactory removal partial denture is rendered edentulous and the teeth to be replaced are added to the denture, additional base material to effect maximal coverage of the denture bearing area is also provided
When may a transitional immediate denture be fabricated
As a training denture
Eg Kennedy 1 type Dentures in older pts for whom the prognosis for remaining teeth is poor
How is a transitional immediate denture used to make a more suitable complete denture?
After a period of time wearing the training denture, it is hoped that neuromuscular control of the training denture will develop, an impression is taken with the training denture in situ.
The resultant master cast is modified by removal of the remaining teeth and the transitional denture is processed
What are the theoretical categories of immediate Dentures and overdentures?
Conventional immediate Dentures maybe transitional or immediate
Overdentures maybe transitional immediate or definitive
Why can’t a conventional immediate denture be deifnitve
Because the resorptive bone process requires the conventional immediate denture be replaced
