Composition of PSAB
At least 6 registered pharmacists as members incl 1 chairman (appointed among the members by Minister )
Functions of PSAB
- Determine conditions (qualifications, experience etc) for specialist registration
- Define the specialties
- Accredit training programmes to be recognised for specialist registration
- Certify persons having qualifications for specialist registration
- Recommend to Council programmes for CPE of specialist pharmacists
- Advise Council on matters related to specialist registration
Requirements for registration of specialist pharmacists
A fully registered pharmacist holding valid PC and currently practising in SG AND:
1. Has a relevant postgrad qualification recognised by PSAB
2. Valid specialty certification (in existing 7 specialty)
3. Completed 1y full-time broad-based residency + 1y full-time residency in specialty applied for
4. Accumulated 1y of specialty practice experience in specialty applied for (after residency training), in the 3 years preceding application

Process for specialist registration
- Pharmacist submits application form with all required documents to PSAB, then SPC
- PSAB Issues a certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (specialist accreditation)
- Register applicant in Register of Specialists
- SPC Issues a specialist certificate of registration in that branch of pharmacy (specialist registration) & Practising Certificate (PC)
Difference btw specialist accreditation VS specialist registration
Accreditation offered by PSAB for cert of eligibility for specialist registration (offered by SPC)
