Specialised Cells Flashcards
Differentiation
The process by which a cell divides by mitosis into different specialised cells
Specialised Cell
A cell with a particular structureor feature that allows it carry out a particular job more efficiently
Stem Cell
Unspecialised cells that work by dividing mitosis into different differentiated cells which are specialised
Specilaised cells e.g.
Epithelial cells
Red Blood Cells
Sperm Cells
Epithelial Cells
Cell of the small intestine have more folds called microvilli. Increase the surface area of the cell membrane so that molecules can be absorbed more efficiently. they also have lots of mitochondria that release the energy for the active transport of substances across the membrane
Red Blood Cells
These cells have no nucleus so there is more room for the oxygen carrying compound hemoglobin. this means more oxygen can be carried around the body
Sperm Cells
These cells contain a lot of mitochondria to release large amounts of energy need to propel them towards an egg
