Specialised cells Flashcards
Where is sperm cell found
Testes
Name 2 adaptations of sperm cell
- Long tail to swim to egg cell. 2. Acrosome contains enzymes to digest the outer layer of an egg cell so nucleus can fuse with that of an egg
What is the function of the palisade cell
Photosynthesis
How is the palisade cell adapted for photosynthesis?
Packed with chloroplasts which contain chlorophyll to absorb light
What is the function of the ciliated epithelial cell?
Sweeps mucus with trapped dust and bacteria back up the throat so it is removed from the lungs
How are ciliated epilthelial cells adapted for their function?
They have hairs called cilia
What is the function of the root hair cell?
Absorb water from the soil
How is the root hair cell adapted for its function
It has a large surface area to absorb water and minerals
What is the function of the neurone?
They carry nerve impulses to different parts of the body
Name 2 ways the neurone is adapted to its function
- They are long 2. They can conduct electrical impulses
What is the function of the red blood cell?
Transport oxygen around the body
Name 3 ways the red blood cell is adapted to its function.
- Biconcave shape to provide large surface area for absorbing oxygen
- Contains haemoglibin, which joins with oxygen
- Has no nucleus, so there is more space for oxygen.
Where is the ova found?
Ovaries
How is the ova adapted to its function?
Contains lots of cytoplasm which provides a large supply of nutrients for the new cell
