specialised cells Flashcards
root hair cell
increases surface area to maximise movement of water and minerals and a thin wall + vacuole with low weter potential for water movement
sperm cell
gamates, contains mitochondria to supply energy to move around, contains acrosome (enzyme) used to break down the egg shell. includes a head, acrosome, nucleus, neck, middle piece, mitochondria, plasma membrane, flagella
paliside mesophyll cells
found in leaves, contain chlorophyll and its shape allows lots of light to be absorbed for photosynthesis, vacuole maintains tugor pressure,
egg cell
gametes, largest cell, zona pellacula is the outer protective layer, corona radiata provides the egg with proteins
red blood cell
bioconcave shape increases surface area
nu nucleus to make more room for heamoglobin
is flexible so it can squeeze through capillaries
white blood cells
plays an important role in the immune system, can squeeze through small gaps, contains enzymes to digest pathogens
neutrophil, multi lobed nucleus, granulated cytoplasm
