Specialised Cell Flashcards
What is the function of chromosomal DNA that is within a bacteria cell?
It lies in cytoplasm and it carries most of the cells genes
What is the function of plasmid DNA within a bacteria cell?
Plasmids contain additional genes that cannot be found in the chromosomes.
What is the function of the flagellum within a bacteria cell?
Helps cell move
What is one of the function of the cytoplasm within a human egg cell?
The cytoplasm contains nutrients for the growing embryo
What is the function of the haploid nucleus within a human egg cell?
It joins with the sperms haploid nucleus allowing for fertilisation.
Why does the cell membrane within the egg cell changes after fertilisation?
The cell membrane changes to ensure no sperm can enter the egg cell.
What is the of the tail in a sperm cell
So the sperm can swim to get to the egg.
What is formed when a sperm cells haploid nucleus forms with an egg cells haploid nucleus?
A Diploid zygote is formed.
What does the enzymes with the acrosome ( the head of the sperm cells) do?
They allow the sperm to break the egg.
What is function of cilia within ciliated cell?
The cilia are tiny hairs along the tubes cell that push the mucus and bacteria away from lungs
Give one similarity and one difference between a bacteria cell and animal cell
- A similarity is they both contain a cell membrane and ribosomes
- A difference is that bacteria does not contain a nucleus to hold the DNA
An animal cell doesn’t contain a flagellum to move nor does it have a cell wall
