Specialiased Cells Flashcards
Neutrophils
FLEXIBLE SHAPE- allows them to engulf pathogens
LYSOSOMES- to break down pathogen
Erythrocytes ( RBC)
BICONCAVE DISK SHAPE: provide large SA for gas exchange of oxygen in the blood
NO NUCLEUS : more room for haemoglobin
Epithelial cells
Ciliated - have CILIA that beat to move particles away
Squamous - THIN to reduce diffusion distance
Sperm cells
FLAGGELUM - so they can swim to egg
LOTS OF MITOCHONDRIA- to provide energy to swim
Palisade cells
Lots of cholorplqste so can absorb lots of sunlight
Thin walls so co2 can easily diffuse into cell
Root hair cells
Large SA for absorption
Thin permeable wall so water and ions can enter
Cytoplasm has extra mitochondria to provide energy needed for AT
Guard cells
Pores on surface for gas exchange
In light - take up water and become turgid - walls bend outwards and opens stomata
Allows exgabge of gases
