Pregnancy and Exercise Testing
Maximal Exercise Testing: Should not be performed unless necessary
Submax: May be performed for specific exercise prescription
Medical Conditions and/or Sedentary: Clearance needed
Pregnancy and physiological factors
Increase in oxygen uptake, heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, tidal volume, minute ventilation
Pregnancy exercise frequency and intensity
Frequency: At least 3-4 days/week
Intensity: Low or moderate. (BMI < 25= Moderate) (BMI > 25= Low Intensity)
Pregnancy Exercise Time/Duration and Type
Time/Duration: >15 minutes (3 days) gradual increase to 30 minutes (4 days)
BMI >25: >25 minutes (2 days/wk) increase to 40 minutes per day (3-4 days/wk)
Child Exercise Prescription
Frequency: Daily
Intensity: 60 minutes per day
Strength exercise: >3 days/wk
