Q

What is a centre of mass?

A

The average point of mass on an object, all mass acts from this point.
Tip - think of a target 🎯, the very middle would be the centre of mass.

Q

How do you find the centre of mass for an irregular object?

PRACTICAL.

A

~ Clamp stand with a pivot.
~ Pierce holes in the irregular piece of cardboard, place object on pivot through one of the holes
~ Use a ruler to draw a line directly down and directly across
~ Repeat from multiple holes
~ Intersection = centre of mass.

Q

What factors can an unbalanced force affect?

A
  • Direction (collision) example = golf ball on a wall
  • Speed example = engine in a car
  • Shape (elasticity) example = water balloon throw
