Speaking In Public Flashcards
What techniques do you need for speaking in public? (8)
Posture, articulation, projection, use of cue cards, structuring a speech, breathing, resonance and eye contact
Posture
How you stand- the position of how you stand shows the audience your interest in the speech
Articulation
Clear distinct sounds at the end of the words- this is needed so the audience can understand your point
Projection
Speaking loudly to be heard- everyone needs to hear the speech and with a large audience the people furthest away may struggle to hear with no projection
Use of cue cards
Small notes on a card in case you loose track of your speech- these can help as quick reminders to get you back on track if you partially forget a section
Structuring a speech
Planning and ordering a speech in an effective way- the order is important as the main points need to be raised first and continuously throughout
Breathing
Taking a break and breaths at certain points- the audience don’t want to hear heavy breathing if you are out of breath so breathing at the end of sentences and at commas is necessary
Resonance
The sound of your voice- this is key depending on the mood of the topic
Eye contact
Looking at the whole audience- the audience have come to watch so want to feel connected with the speech and therefore by looking all over will make everyone feel addressed
