Question 1

Throughout the play, Shakespeare presents Don John as resentful of his brother’s power and status. Don John feels that he has been unfairly treated and overlooked in favor of his brother. This resentment leads him to plot against Don Pedro and his friends, including Claudio and Hero.

Despite their familial connection, Don John and Don Pedro do not appear to have a close relationship. Don Pedro seems to be unaware of his brother’s true nature and is easily manipulated by him. This is demonstrated when Don John convinces Don Pedro to believe that Claudio has been betrayed by Hero.
