Simón Bolívar
Venezuelan military & political leader who led Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia to independence from the Spanish Empire. El Libertador // the Liberator of America…
Pronto is Colombian, and still is a fan of the crown, because of the red street (there’s a single word for this) where Bolívar killed everyone to prove a point.

Operation Gideon (2020)

When was the Venezuelan economy better than USA’s?
~1955
From the 1950s to the early 1980s, the Venezuelan economy, which was buoyed by high oil prices, was one of the strongest and most prosperous in South America. The continuous growth during that period attracted many immigrants.
In 1950, Venezuela was the world’s 4th wealthiest nation per capita.
However, Rómulo Betancourt (President from 1959 to 1964) inherited from 1958 to 1959 onward an enormous internal and external debt caused by rampant public spending.
Hugo Chávez
hates the USA
Marxist-Leninist (Fidel, Raúl, Evo Morales in Bolivia, Rafael Correa in Ecuador, Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua)
Chávez described his policies as anti-imperialist, being a prominent adversary of the United States’s foreign policy as well as a vocal critic of neoliberalism and laissez-faire capitalism. He described himself as a Marxist. He supported Latin American and Caribbean cooperation and was instrumental in setting up the pan-regional Union of South American Nations, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, the Bank of the South and the regional television network TeleSUR. Chavez’s ideas, programs, and style form the basis of “Chavismo”, a political ideology closely associated with Bolivarianism and socialism of the 21st century.
Nicolás Maduro
Maduro has been described as an autocrat and a “dictator”. An Organization of American States (OAS) report determined that crimes against humanity have been committed during his presidency.
Most Venezuelan television channels are controlled by the state, and information unfavorable to the government is not covered completely.
On 26 March 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted Maduro on charges of drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, and the Department of State offered a $15 million reward for information that helps “bring him to justice”.
In office since 5 March 2013
Disputed since 10 January 2019
Internationally, support has followed geopolitical lines, with Russia, China, Cuba, Iran, Syria, and Turkey supporting Maduro, while the majority of Western and Latin American countries supported Guaidó as acting president.

Author kinda like game of thrones, with winding individual paths. very popular. Haimeé doesn’t like this kind of writing…
Should you travel to Venezuela (July 2022)
Do not travel to Venezuela due to crime, civil unrest, poor health infrastructure, kidnapping, and the arrest and detention of U.S. citizens without due process or fair trial guarantees. Exercise increased caution in Venezuela due to terrorism and wrongful detentions.
how far from south america to USA?
The first 60 miles would be a miserable slog through a swamp (the Darién Gap) but, once you get through that, one can take the Pan American Highway. Starting at Yaviza, Panama and going to Lorado, Texas, the trip is around 3000 miles. Assuming a travel time of 20 miles per day, which is quite fast for a non-infantry trained person, that works out to about 150 days, if one doesn’t take a day off every once in a while.
