Phillip wrongly believed all English men wanted to be Catholic.

Why did it fail of ship design?
The English ships were smaller and more manoeuvrable
Once the Spanish crescent was broken the battle was lost
The Spanish couldn’t use their tactic of the grapple in hooks because the English were too fast.
Why did it fail because of Spanish mistakes?
They made Duke Medina Sidonia the commander of the Armada who got seasick and his own mother didn’t think he could do it.
The could have landed at Portsmouth and destroyed all the English ships but instead they moved on to the Netherlands and collected the soldiers.

What happened with the weather?
On the way back the Spanish got caught up in some trouble with the weather around the west coast of Ireland pushing them into Ireland being killed by English settlers or they would get shipwrecked
