What are transitive verbs?
Transitive verbs are verbs that need a direct object.
What is a direct object?
A direct object is essentially the person or thing the subject performs an action upon.
What are three examples of common transitive verbs?
- Tener - have
- Comer - eat
- Sorprender - surprise
What is an example of n transitivity test?
What does the person have? A direct object
What did the person eat? A direct object
What are intransitive verbs?
Intransitive verbs are verbs that do not need a direct object. Intransitive verbs often form one-word sentences in Spanish.
What are three examples of common intransitive verbs?
- Correr - Run
- Dormir - Sleep
- Gustar- Like
Why is Gustar an intransitive verb?
Because the object is indirect.
The subject of the sentence is the thing being liked, while the thing doing the liking is expressed via an indirect object.
What is an indirect object?
An indirect object pronoun tells you to whom or for whom something is done.
What Pronominal Verbs?
Pronominal verbs must be conjugated along with a reflexive or reciprocal pronoun.
What are Reflexive Verbs?
The subject performs some action for or upon him/herself.
What are three examples of Reflexive Verbs?
- Me Veo - I see myself
- Se escribe - He writes himself
- Te cepillas los dientes - You brush your teeth
What are Reciprocal verbs?
Two subjects perform the same action on each other.
What are two examples of reciprocal verbs?
- Nos abrazamos.
We hug each other. - Se casaron.
They got married.
