What are Hoyas?

A

Large pits dug into volcanic soil designed to protect vines from hot winds that dehydrate grapes or cover them in ash.
Pits are anywhere from 5-10 meters in depth, are often surrounded by rocks, and hold only one or two vines.
These are mostly found in Lanzarote, Canary Islands.
