Q

What is weight?

A

Weight is due to the pull of gravity. It is a force and it is calculated in Newtons. The equation to find the weight of somthign is mass x gravity.

Q

The temprature of a planet _____ as it ____ from the sun

A

The temperature of a planet cools down as it goes away from the sun

17
Q

A yearly orbit of a planet with _______ from the sun as they need to go through ________

A

A yearly orbit of a planet with it’s distainer from the sun as they need to go through differnt distances

18
Q

The distances _____ can be _______

A

The distance discussed in a space topic can be enormous

19
Q

Light year

A

The distance that light travels in a year

20
Q

Light year equation

A

9.46 x 10 (12) km or 9.46 x 10 (15)m

21
Q

What is a satellite

A

A satellite is anything that is orbiting around a planet

22
Q

What is polar orbiting?

A

A satellites used to take pictures of the earth, it is an earth observation satellites.

23
Q

What is geostationary?

A

It is a communciation satellite, used to transmit TV programs of telescope calls. It is always over the same part of earth

24
Q

What is the difference between a man-made satellite and a natural satellite

A

It is how they are made. Man made satellites are launched into space by artificail satellitws, while the moon that is not artificially made, are called natural satellites

25
Q

The differnce between polar and geostationary

A

Is that geostationary satellites orbit much higher, thpically 36,000km. It also means that they travel more slowly.

26
Q

Early ideas VS old ideas

A

Old:
Geocentric— everything orbits a stationary earth
-thought that prbits were perfectly circular
-methods were not accurate

New ideas:
-we use telescopes and other things to predict
Heliocentric— planets inculding earth orbit around the sun
-not accurate orbits p— ovae shape
-new ideas perfectly predict the moments in the solar system

27
Q

How con scientist find out things about solar system

A

With telescope and radio waves. The bad thing about it is that if you see a telescope from earth you are going to see well becuase of the polluted light and air.

28
Q

Order of the planets

A
29
Q

Why do we have seasons?

A

By the direction earth travells in. There is the Southern Hemisphere and the Nothern Hemisphere. Becuase of the tilt, one part points towars the sun and the other away from it.

30
Q

Why does the length of a day vary throughout a year?

A

Earth is tilted as it travells around the sun, so some parts recieve more sunlight than others. This changes during the year becuase the earth moves around the sun, which gives rise to the seasons.
