Space - Earth Science Year 10 T4 Flashcards
Define nebulae
A giant cloud of dust and gas in space. This gas and dust is created from the explosion of a dying star.
Define stars
Stars are astronomical objects that produce heat, light, ultraviolet rays, x-rays and other forms of radiation.
Star brightness is determined by…
Depending on the brightness of the star depicts the amount of energy the stars release.
Define planets
A planet is defined as an object that orbits the sun, has sufficient mass to be round or nearly rounded.
Define galaxies
A galaxy is a collection of stars held together by the gravity of all the other stars. An example of a galaxy would be the Milky way.
Define solar system
A solar system is a star and all of the objects that revolve around it. This includes moons, planets, asteroids, comets and meteoroids.
Define moons
Most planetary moons are formed from the discs of gas and dust circulating around planets in solar systems. There are hundreds of moons in our solar system.
Define asteroids
Asteroids are rocky worlds revolving around the sun that are too small to be classified as planets.
Define comets
Comets are known to be cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that orbit the sun.
Define meteoroids
A meteoroid is matter revolving around the sun or any planet in interplanetary space that is too small to be called an asteroid or a comet.
Define artificial objects
Artificial objects are any object that is human made that is in space. This composes of the international space station, space probes and space telescopes.
Identify the lifecycle of a low mass star
Stage Name of Star
1 Stella nebula
