What do planets orbit?
Stars
What do stars orbit?
Most orbit the black hole in the centre of our universe
What do moons orbit?
Planets
What do comets and asteroids orbit?
Stars
What is the weigh equation?
Weight=mass + gravitational field strength
Why do we get day and night?
The Earth orbits the sun once every 365 days and rotates about its axis once every 24 hours. Day and night are due to the Earth rotating on its axis, not its orbiting around the sun. The term ‘one day’ is determined by the time the Earth takes to rotate once on its axis and includes both day time and night time.
Why do we get seasons?
As the earth spins on its axis, producing night and day, it also moves about the sun in an elliptical (elongated circle) orbit that requires about 365 1/4 days to complete. The earth’s spin axis is tilted with respect to its orbital plane.
Why is summer usually warmer than winter?
During the summer, the earths sun rays are hitting the earth less spread out and hit the earth at a steeper angle, increasing the amount of energy. Also the long daylight hours means the earth has more time to heat up. This means that aswell as more light it is warmer.
What are the eight phases of the moon?
new Moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full Moon, waning gibbous, third quarter and waning crescent
The Moon does not produce its own light - how can we see it?
Reflection from the sun
How long does it take the Moon to orbit the Earth?
28 days ish
What is a nebula?
A cloud of gas where stars are formed
What is a universe?
All existing matter and space
What is a galaxy?
A system of billions of stars held together by gravitational attraction
