Space Flashcards
What is Mass?
Mass is the amount of matter in an object
What is Mass measured in?
Mass is measured in kilograms (kg)
What is weight?
Weight is the force of gravity acting on an object.
What is force measured in?
Force is measured in newtons (N)
What is the formula for weight
Weight = mass x gravity (N) = (Kg) (N/kg)
Name some constellations
Ursa Major, Cassiopeia, Orion, The big dipper (the Plough)
Name the planets in the solar system
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
What are the planets made of?
The inner planets are made from rocks, they are too close to the sun to become a gas, (Mercury- Mars) the outer are from gases, mainly Hydrogen and Helium (Jupiter - Neptune)
Compare the planets in the solar system (temp)
The inner planets are much hotter then the outer planets. The further the distance from the sun the more the temp decreases
Reasons For and Against space travel
For: Against: Scientific discoveries Money Finding essential minerals in space Polluting space
Finding other living species in space Risk to astronauts
Challenge of adventure Not reducing poverty
in underdeveloped
countries
How can we search for life in space?
- ) Probes can search planets, exoplanets, asteroids and comets for microbes
- ) We can analyse atmospheres for oxygen and methane
- ) We can try to detect radio wave communications
Why do satellites keep moving
Because there is no air to slow it down
Where do satellites get their electricity from
Satellites gets its electricity from panels of solar cells
Satellites get placed in its orbit by…
Rockets launched from the earth
What is Earth
