Space Flashcards
What is gravity?
It is the force of attraction between two objects.
What is mass?
The amount of stuff in an object. It is not a force.
What is weight?
A force acting on an object due to gravity.
What does the sun (and other stars) give out?
Light
What is a light year?
A unit of distance.
What are the seasons on earth caused by?
Caused by the tilt (angle) of the Earth’s axis.
Which is stronger?
The forces of gravity between the sun and the earth
OR
The forces of gravity between the earth and the moon
The forces of gravity between the sun and the earth
What is gravitational field strength (g)?
How strong gravity is.
What are the planets in the solar system?
Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto (dwarf planet)
What is a galaxy?
A large group of stars
What is a gas giant?
Give an example.
An outer planet in the Solar System, made mainly from gas.
An example is Jupiter
What are the inner planets?
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
How many planets are there?
8 planets (not counting pluto)
Describe the link between the distance from the sun and the temperature of planets.
In our solar system, the further the planet is from the sun, the colder it will be.
What kind of atmosphere does Venus have?
What does this atmosphere do?
It has an atmosphere of carbon dioxide.
It traps energy from the sun, making the planet heat up.
