What is the efficiency equation?
Efficiency = (useful energy output ÷ total energy input) × 100%
A light bulb uses 100J of electrical energy and produces 15J of light. Calculate its efficiency.
(15 ÷ 100) × 100 = 15% efficient
How does insulation reduce energy loss?
Traps air (poor conductor) to reduce heat transfer by conduction/convection
What is the U-value?
Measure of heat loss rate - lower U-value = better insulator
GPE equation:
GPE = mgh
(mass × gravitational field strength × height)
A 2kg book is on a 1.5m shelf (g=9.8N/kg). Calculate its GPE
GPE = 2 × 9.8 × 1.5 = 29.4J
KE equation:
KE = ½mv²
What happens to KE if velocity doubles?
KE quadruples (since v²)
