Sp1 Flashcards
1
Q
3 Advantages of AC motors over DC
A
- Equipment is smaller for given power outlet
- Less maintenance
- Use of 3 phase provides smooth rotating magnetic field for rotating machinery
2
Q
Fundamental requirements for L system
A
- Generate and distribute electrical power from reactor during normal operation
- To maintain electrical power supplies to the essential services when reactor fails
- To provide sufficient power to start up and shutdown reactor
- Provide high integrity supplies for ship control reactor instrumentation and reactor control
- Provide alternative means of propulsion on reactor SCRAM
3
Q
Two reactor power states and MCP combos
A
2F/2F - Full Power
2S/2S - Half Power
4
Q
Major types of Damage NSRP Suffers
A
- Mechanical
- Chemical
- Thermal
5
Q
Function of the MSC
A
Fulfil the requirement for no break supply when reactor fails or shutdown
6
Q
Max power output for MG’s AC + DC
A
- 700Kw Dc
- 650Kw Ac
7
Q
Function of the MG’s
A
- Generate AC for ships services when both TG’s are unavailable or cold moving
- Generate DC for ships services (Battery Charging)
Provide a changeover between above as needed - Offload shore supply or the TG’s onto the main batteries as required
8
Q
Precautions before battery entry
A
- Permission from SCOOW/OOD
- Battery ventilated + ventilation maintained
- All metal objects removed
- Insulated tools
- Overalls and rubber soles worn
- Must be accompanied
9
Q
Routines carried out 25 week cycle
A
- Restricted charge as required
- Normal Charge 3 per cycle
- Equalising charge 3 per cycle
- Conditioning Discharge 1 per cycle
- All round readings twice a day
10
Q
Functions of DG
A
- Support AC and DC electrical services
- Charge main battery
- Support Missile services
- Provide L power for diesel/L propulsion
- Provide L power for MSC/MG for reactor start up independent of shore supply
11
Q
Alarms does the Teddington Series 6 have
A
- Overspeed Tachogenerator
- Overspeed Mechanical
- LO outlet temp
- LO inlet pressure
- Exhaust system 1st and 2nd exhaust
- Manual Trip
12
Q
Who controls the SS procedure and located ?
A
Duty engineer from Manoeuvring
13
Q
Two lineups of the ESS busbar integrity
A
- Double MG/MSC Standby
- Single MG/ MSC Standby
14
Q
Functions of Switchgear
A
- Allow power sources, busbar section + services to be switched in + out as required from central position (Manoeuvring room)
- To open automatically under trip conditions to protect power cables and isolate faults
- To open discriminately under trip conditions, ensuring minimum disruption to electrical services
15
Q
Steps to open close Breaker with faulty retaining coil
A
- To close : Obtain permission MEO
- Check that protection and interlock functions normally
- Set retaining coil override to ON
- Make BKR normal way from ESP
- To open : Release retaining coil override
- Set control switch on ESP to off
