SP 1
L: On the medial side of the big toe, about 0.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nailed.
A: regulates Blood, stops bleeding
M: Puncture perpendicular or oblique 0.1-0.2 inch proximally or prick to cause bleeding.
SP 2
L: On the medial side of the big toe, distal and inferior to the first metatarsophalangeal joint, at the
junction of the red and white skin.
A: Harmonizes the Spleen, clears heat
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.1-0.3 inch or oblique 0.3-0.5 inch inferiorly.
SP 3
L: Proximal and inferior to the head of the first metatarsal bone, at the junction of the red and white skin.
A: SOURCE POINT, tonifies the Spleen
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.3-1.0 inch
SP 4
L: In the depression distal and inferior to the base of the first metatarsal bone, at the junction of the red and white skin
A: CONNECTING POINT, resolves dampness
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch.
SP 5
L: In the depression distal and inferior to the medial malleolus, midway between the tuberosity of the
navicular bone and the tip of the medial malleolus.
A: benefits the sinews and joints
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.2-0.3 inch or subcutaneous 0.3-0.5 inch laterally beneath the tendons.
SP 6
L: 3 cun directly proximal to the tip of the medial malleolus, on the posterior border of the tibia.
A: Meeting of the 3 Yin of the leg, nourishes Yin
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5–1.0 inch or oblique 1.0-1.5 inch proximally.
N: Tibial nerve.
C: Contraindicated in pregnancy; Great saphenous vein and the posterior tibial artery and vein.
SP 7
L: 3 cun proximal to Sp 6, on the line joining the tip of the medial malleolus and Sp 9, on the posterior border of the tibia.
A: relieves swelling, resolves dampness
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5–1.0 inch or oblique 1.0-1.5 inch proximally. N: Tibial nerve
C: Great saphenous vein and the posterior tibial artery and vein.
SP 8
L: 3 cun distal to Sp 9, on the line joining Sp 9 and the medial malleolus, on the posterior border of the
tibia. The point is located in the palpable depression on the border of the tibia.
A: regulates the uterus, regulates menses
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch or oblique 1.0-1.5 inch.
N: Tibial nerve.
C: Great saphenous vein and the posterior tibial artery and vein.
SP 9
L: Just distal to the lower border of the medial condyle of the tibia, in the depression on the medial border
of the tibia.
A: Resolves dampness, regulates water passages.
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.5 inch.
N: Tibial nerve.
C: Great saphenous vein and the posterior tibial artery and vein.
SP 10
L: 2 cun proximal to the mediosuperior border of the patella, on the belly of the vastus medialis muscle. This point is best located with the knee flexed.
A: moves Blood, nourishes Blood
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.5 inch.
SP 11
L: 6 cun proximal to Sp 10, on the line joining Sp 10 and Sp 12.
A: none underlined
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch.
N: Saphenous nerve.
C: Great saphenous vein and the femoral artery and vein.
SP 12
L: 3.5 cun lateral to the anterior midline (CV 2), at the level of the upper border of symphysis pubis. This point is superior to the lateral end of the inguinal groove on the lateral side of the femoral artery. A: Moves Qi, moves Blood M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch. N: Femoral nerve. C: Femoral artery.
SP 13
L: 0.8 cun laterosuperior to Sp 12, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline at the lateral border of the rectus abdomens muscle. This point is located 0.5 cun lateral and 0.7 cun superior to Sp 12.
A: soothes the Liver
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.5 inch
C: Peritoneal cavity in thinner patients.
SP 14
L: 1.3 cun inferior to Sp15, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline, at the lateral border of the rectus abdomens muscle.
A: dissipates cold, regulates Qi
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.5 inch.
C: Peritoneal cavity in thinner patients.
SP 15
L: 4 cun lateral to the centre of the umbilicus, at the lateral border of the rectus abdomens muscle.
A: Tonifies the Spleen, moves Qi
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch.
C: Peritoneal cavity in thinner patients.
