After Stalins death a collective leadership rules the USSR Period of power struggle in the politburo central decision making organ of communist party

Krushev defeats his rivals: Beria is arrested and executed in 1953
Kruschev and Malenkov rule together until 1955, malenkov is replaced by Bulganin in 1955

A

An armistice is signed in Korea

1954 Geneva Conference on Indochina and Korea
1955 Geneva spirit ( first summit after Potsdam conference); USSR proposes the mutual disbandment of NATO and Warsaw Pact and the signing of a separate European security treaty
However Federal Germany’s entry into NATO in 1955 results in the establishement of Warsaw Pact by the USSR
