Which zone is the Southern Fleurieu region within? Describe the region:
Fleurieu Zone. Mediterranean climate with a huge maritime influence from the surrounding water. Two soil types: Friable sandy to clayey loam over limestone; and buckshot gravel over limestone. Top grapes: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Chardonnay.
What zone does Kangaroo Island belong to? Describe the region:
Fleurieu Zone. Wholly maritime with high humidity, though overall temperate. Mainly shallow red-brown sands over limestone. Top grapes: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot.
What zone does Currency Creek belong to? Describe the region:
Fleurieu Zone. Maritime (adjacent to Lake Alexandrina and Southern Ocean), but slightly warmer than Coonawarra and Langhorne Creek. Mainly rolling sandy slopes overlaying friable cracking clays, and loams with red alkaline clayey subsoils. Top grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc.
What zone does Langhorne Creek belong to? Describe the region:
Fleurieu Zone. Maritime, hugely influenced by southerly winds blowing across Lake Alexandrina from the Southern Ocean. Deep alluvial sandy loams across the flat river delta landscape. Top grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Merlot.
What zone does McLaren Vale belong to? Describe the region:
Fleurieu Zone. Proximity to the Gulf of St. Vincent and significant changes in altitude means there is much climatic variation. There is also a wide variety of soil types. Loamy sand with clay subsoils are common. Top grapes: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache.
