What are the three separate legal jurisdictions in the UK?
English Law- England and Wales
Northern Ireland
Scotland
When did Scotland retain its own legal jurisdiction?
Treaty of Union 1707 when union was formed
If all three legal jurisdictions in the UK have an issue or questions who do they respond to?
The Supreme Court
Describe the 3 main institutions in the English law system and their functions
Legislature- Parliament. Organised body with the authority to make laws and Acts for a political unit
Executive- Government. Organised body putting these laws into effect, implementing them and planning policies around them.
Judiciary- Courts and Judges. Administers justice by interpreting the law (set by Parliament) when its meaning is in dispute and makes sure laws are upheld.
