insurance
insurance is designed to cover the cost of legal advice and/or the cost of bringing or defending a court case
with someone household insurance policy, the legal work covered includes taking or defending legal proceedings arising from ownership of the insured home, employment, death, personal injury, personal contracts for purchase of goods or services
the insurer will not help you pursue or defend a claim under unless there is ‘reasonable chance of success’
state funding
available through legal aid
legal help + family help - advice on rights and options and help with negotiating and drawing up agreements
help at court - someone speaks on the clients behalf at court
family mediation - helps the client to come to an agreement in a family dispute after a relationship had broken down, but without going to court
legal aid can be provided only by organisation that have contact with the legal aid agency
conditional fees
sometimes known as ‘no win, no fee’ agreement
where a solicitor and client agree to share the financial risk of taking the case the agreement is part of the solicitor fees will be payable by the client only if the client wins their case
lost case - client will pay a reduced fee or no solicitor fee. However, this does not include expenses the losing party will also have to pay the winners cost
trade union members
trade union members often provide legal services for their members in industry related cases
provide services to members for free
citizen advice
advice on many issues such as employment, customer complaints, and landlord and tenants disputes
dealt with face to face or by phone
pro bono
solicitors and barristers doing legal work for free of charge
involves lawyers and law students working on voluntary basis for people who need legal assistance but who are hot in the financial position to get proper support
