Sounds and Cycles Lec. Flashcards
When does a systolic murmur and diastolic murmur occur?
Systolic is during Ventricular Systole
Diastolic is during Ventricular Diastole
What is a 1 grade heart murmur?
Soft murmur that can be heard in quiet surroundings
What is a grade 2 heart murmur?
Soft murmur that can be heard in loud/noisy surroundings
What is a grade 3 heart murmur?

Left Heart Sounds:
Mitrial
Aortic
What is HOCM?
Hypertropic obstructive Cardiacmyopathy
- Due to abnormal thickening at the septum
- With decrease in preload, the murmur becomes louder
Typical Rules of Preloads effects on the Heart Sounds
Increased Preload = Louder sounds
Decreased Preload = Softer sounds
Typical Rules of Afterload effects on the Heart Sounds
Increased Afterload = Louder sounds
Decreased Afterload = Softer sounds
How does an aortic stenosis sound?
Crescendo Ascending descending murmur
How does a mistrial regurgitation valve sound?
Holosystolic/pansystolic loud blowing murmur (S1 to S2)
- Heard best at the apex, sound radiates to the Axilla
- Associated with Rheumatic Fever
How does a tricuspid prolapse sound?
Holosystolic/pansystolic loud blowing murmur (S1 to S2)
Associated with patient history of Intravenous drugs
