Sound Waves - Echo, Resonance etc Flashcards
What is an echo?
Is when a sound wave bounce back (reflected) from solids to the same frequency and wavelength
Why do echoes sound louder?
Cuz now there’re many sound waves stacking together
Why are empty rooms better to make echoes?
Sound is easy to absorb, so if less things to absorb -> more surfaces to reflect -> ECHOooo
What is natural frequency?
When an object gets hit on, oscillates at a natural unique frequency to them
What is forced vibration?
When sound waves can carry lots of energy, forcing nearby objects to vibrate
What is resonance?
When object’s oscillation matches the natural frequency of another object’s, which it then vibrates at that same frequency too
What’s the effect of resonance?
Results in an increased amplitude of the sound wave (louder)
