Sound Revision Flashcards
An instrument that shows the oscillation of sound as electrical signals.
Oscilloscope
Vibrations that travel through the air or another medium that can be detected by the ear.
Sound
A wave where the vibrations of the particles are in the same direction as the direction the wave moves. An example is sound.
Longitudinal
The part of a longitudinal wave where particles are close together.
Compression
The part of a longitudinal wave where particles are spread out.
Rarefication
A space where there is no matter.
Vacuum
A property of sound determined by its pitch.
Pitch
Sound that has a frequency below 20 Hz. Its low frequency makes it impossible to detect with the human ear.
Infrasound
Sound that has a frequency above 20,000 Hz (20 kHz). Its high frequency makes it impossible to detect with the human ear.
Ultrasound
The reflection of a sound wave on an object.
Echo
When lots of echoes join together to produce a longer-lasting sound.
Reverberation
